Roma communities are among those most affected by family separation in Bulgaria, a challenge shaped by systemic barriers and by limited opportunities to define their own needs and responses.
The Social Innovation Lab, part of our Solid Ground for Children programme, was established to develop community-led solutions to this issue.
Experimental and collective, the Lab brought together a diverse group of majority Roma actors to design and test new approaches.
This report documents what they found. It explores:
- What the innovation lab makes possible that conventional projects can’t
- How Roma communities understand family separation, and why the picture is more complex than it first appears
- What worked, what didn’t, and what the prototypes revealed about community-led change
