Imagine a world where everyone was relentlessly strategic. What if, instead of a host of different projects, we focused on the most powerful solutions—and worked on scaling those?

We might just start solving some of society’s toughest challenges.

But how do we identify which solution is actually meaningful, and how do we scale it effectively?

As Kevin Starr, CEO of Mulago, points out in our Scaling Mindsets series, scaling is about identifying a promising strategy, sticking to it, and being unafraid to say “no” to distractions.

And the journey to scale starts with designing solutions that are:

  • Good enough to make a meaningful impact
  • Big enough to reach widespread need
  • Simple enough for others to replicate
  • Affordable enough for funders to support sustainably

Keeping these four points in mind is the main key to success.

The other key? This work doesn’t only fall to the organisations, funders need to support it too. True scale requires funders to embrace solutions that are transformative, and that sometimes means a shift in mindsets.

Watch this video to hear Kevin Starr go into more detail about what it means to be relentlessly strategic and how we can scale projects that matter.
