Realising the Potential of Social Replication

Research for The Big Lottery Fund by Spring Impact, September 2013.

In late 2012 the Big Lottery Fund (BLF) commissioned Spring Impact to carry out research to assess the potential for social franchising in the UK. This document contains the findings of that research. This paper builds upon the Spring Impact report ‘Investing In Social Franchising’ carried out for Big Society Capital (BSC) that looked into the possibility of establishing a fund to support social ventures attempting to franchise.

This report seeks to answer two questions:

1. What potential does social replication have for delivering social value in the UK?

2. How can this be realised?

The report details eight key insights that the research uncovered relevant to the replication of proven social ventures.

*In 2017 The International Centre for Social Franchising (ICSF) became Spring Impact. This report was created under our old  branding and name.
