The Bertha Centre for Social Innovation & Entrepreneurship at the University of Cape Town’s Graduate School of Business is a catalyst for social impact and dialogue, searching for new solutions for emerging markets in Africa. A leading academic centre, in collaboration with the GSB, it has integrated social innovation into the business school curriculum, established a wide community of practitioners and awarded over R6-million in scholarships to students from across Africa. We were funded by The Rockefeller Foundation to create the first social franchise accelerator in South Africa. To do so we partnered with the Bertha Centre and Franchising Plus to support four high profile organisations scale up including Ikamva Youth, Philani Child Health and Nutrition, U-Turn Homeless Ministries and Silulo Technologies.
