FAQs

Is this a fundraising course?

No — and that’s intentional. This course isn’t about writing grant proposals, donor cultivation, or running campaigns. It’s about designing a funding model that can sustain and grow your impact over time. We focus on the strategy behind funding, not the tactics of fundraising.

Who is this course for?

Senior leaders in social organisations who own financial sustainability and scaling, eg CEOs, Executive Directors, Heads of Strategy, Fundraising or Growth. If you need to fund your next stage, this is for you. The examples used and the payers we explore throughout the course are largely focused on those working in low- and middle-income countries.

Do I need to have a finance background?

Not at all. We designed this course for strategic decision-makers — not just CFOs. You’ll get simple, practical tools to understand your funding model and make smart, long-term decisions (without needing a spreadsheet wizard on hand).

What kind of organisations is this best suited for?

We built this for growth-stage non-profits with evidence of impact and a desire to scale. You might be starting to think about how to take your intervention to more people, or already delivering in multiple locations, expanding delivery partners, or exploring government adoption. If you’re still in the very early stages of developing your solution, Getting Scale Ready might be a better fit.

What if we’re a social enterprise or hybrid model?

Perfect. We cover different payer types — from donors to governments to customers — and help you think through hybrid models. The principles apply whether you rely on philanthropy, earned income, or a mix.

What if we rely heavily on grants, is this still relevant?

Yes. Many scaling organisations rely on grants — and this course can help you make those grants work harder by aligning them with your scaling strategy, identifying complementary revenue streams, and structuring funding in a way that supports long-term growth.

We operate in a low-resource or constrained funding context. Will this be relevant?

Absolutely. While we draw on global examples, the course is designed to help you think creatively and strategically within your own context — including how to reduce costs, increase cost-effectiveness, and align with the right types of payers.

Will we get a ready-made funding model by the end of the course?

Not quite. This isn’t a one-size-fits-all template. Instead, you’ll work through structured frameworks, examples, and guided exercises to design the right model for your organisation — one that reflects your delivery model, impact goals, and strategic context.
