Our society will only become fairer when great ideas and innovations can be accessed by everyone. We know that having a good idea is just the beginning of creating change. Finding an effective way to scale social innovations is critical to taking ideas further and reaching more people. However, getting this right is one of the biggest challenges facing charities and social enterprises, and for funders looking to invest.

If someone has worked out how to solve a social problem, and it is adding value to people’s lives in one place, why isn’t it everywhere?

We are driven by the ambition to transform how the social sector scales impact in the UK.

Our survey of 155 UK social impact ventures for The National Lottery Community Fund found that 80% of those who would consider replication lacked the necessary knowledge and/or access to external support

What we have achieved so far?

Over the past three years Scale Accelerator has helped those tackling the UK’s toughest social problems – from homelessness, to domestic violence – to increase their reach and impact, and to gain funding for their next phase of growth. In total we have supported 24 of the UK’s top charities and social entrepreneurs through Scale Accelerator.

The financial model changed how we think about the future. There was just this moment when we understood that the financial model meant that we could explain the programme in a slightly different way, and that we could explain that our ask to funders, commissioners and partners was really quite unique. There was just this magic moment when we saw that unlocked how we talk about it, how its viewed and how we leverage support for it.
