Jean’s experience spans banking, microfinance, and entrepreneurship. She began her career as a Financial Analyst in Public Finance at Merrill Lynch & Co. Five years developing microfinance institutions as Senior Director of Latin American Operations with ACCION International gave her an understanding of the value of scale, and the importance of systematic replication for sound growth. Thereafter, Jean helped to found, develop and lead a series of start-ups, both commercial, and nonprofit social ventures. At the Harvard Business School, she coordinated a field program which worked with pioneering social ventures around the world to help optimise their models.
Jean was a founding board member of Root Capital, a nonprofit social investment fund that provides loans, training and market linkages to small and growing agricultural businesses in Africa and Latin America. She was also a trustee for the Wang Center for the Performing Arts, and an alternate to the board of Profund, the first microfinance equity fund. Jean is an advisor to Beneficial Returns, an impact investment fund. She is also a program coordinator and team manager for Destination Imagination, in which children tackle challenges ranging from STEM to community service as a means to learn creative problem solving and team work. Jean holds an M.B.A. in Development Finance and Planning from The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania with coursework at the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS), and a B.A. in Economics and Political Science from Yale University.
